Digging into Digital: The Best Tactics for Attracting and Keeping New Clients
Social media and paid search are the shiny new marketing tools everyone’s talking about, but how should energy marketers properly leverage these platforms? We’ll walk you through the best practices for digital marketing, offering industry-specific recommendations for furthering your goals as pertains to customer acquisition and retention. This presentation is brought to you by Blaze Partners, a creative consultancy in Portland, Maine, and MEMA’s partner in branding, business strategy and creative advertising solutions.
Fuel vs. Technology
With the HHO industry’s mandated transition to ultra-low sulfur heating oil (ULSHO) only a heating season away, it’s paramount that fuel dealers know the facts about our soon-to-be industry standard product.
While ULSHO (15ppm sulfur) is certainly a cleaner burning, more efficient fuel—especially when blended with Biodiesel—it is not a fix-all for every common fuel problem, nor does it come without its own set of operability concerns. We’ll address the following topics:
- The Refining Process
- Supply Chain Challenges
- Preparing for ULSHO with an eye on the past
- Tank Storage Housekeeping
Keynote Presentation Information
Richard E. Dyke
Mr. Dyke is the founder of Bushmaster Firearms and Windham Weaponry. You will get a glimpse into what is behind Dick’s spirit and drive that brought him and his companies such great success and achievement.
As well as hearing Dick’s inspiring story on Monday evening, all conference attendees will receive his book Richard E. Dyke, Just a Man from Wilton, Maine. In it he talks about his life and business adventures.
All of the profits from this book go to the Windham Weaponry’s “Helping Hand Fund” that provides financial help to those individuals and families in our local communities that need an extra boost to get by. Windham Weaponry employees recommend people in their hometowns that may need some heating fuel, help with groceries, medical expenses or other areas of need. Those recommendations then lead to donations to make a difference in their lives.
A serial entrepreneur, Dick Dyke served during the Korean conflict as a U.S. Army counter-intelligence officer, then with the CIA under former director and eventual President George H.W. Bush. Later, he founded and eventually sold Bushmaster, a firearms company in Windham that made M16 and AR15-style rifles used worldwide by civilians, law enforcement officials and military operatives.
Yet despite all that testosterone-infused activity, Dyke admits he’s a bit of a softie. The evidence is tacked to a wall behind his desk at his newest venture, Windham Weaponry, the next-generation firearms company he and his son started after Bushmaster’s new owners moved the operation to New York and laid off more than 70 Maine workers.
Not bad for a boy who grew up in Wilton without indoor plumbing (“I played sports in high school so I could take a hot shower,” he jokes.) In addition to the firearms company, he owns Windham Business Park, Naples Country Club and other businesses. “I’m 77 … I don’t need to be doing this,” he says with a chuckle. “But I’d die happy if it happened right here at this desk.”

TRC Presentation Information
New Approaches to Cleaning Up Old or Long Term Petroleum Impacts
By Larry Fitzgerald & Jeff Hansen- TRC Solutions
The presentation will focus on projects where there was a long term environmental impact from past petroleum storage or refining operations and how TRC applied new concepts on mobility and environmental impairment to reset clean-up goals and close out site remediation efforts much quicker than the client’s expectations. This work was used by several state agencies to revise their old clean-up standards into something more risk based, cost effective and achievable.
